Commentary vol. 1: The Joost Name and the Cartography of Power

Commentary_vol_1_The Joost Name and the Cartography of Power With this post I am opening a new section of the site — Commentary — a space for reflection and interpretation rather than primary analysis. Unlike the Crimes , Ciphers , or Letters pages, these essays will not aim to prove or disprove a specific event but to discuss the broader historical, linguistic, and infrastructural frameworks that surround the Zodiac material. The first commentary arises from Tom Voigt’s October 17, 2025, release of Paul Avery’s private communique to Sherwood Morrill, written on 17 November 1969, in which the Chronicle reporter referred to a “Joost suspect.” [1] The note, unpublished for more than half a century, has reignited debate on the message board of ZodiacKiller.com on Tapatalk [2]. Many commenters have tried to determine which individual Avery might have meant, often listing living members of the Joost family or their descendants. My own approach is different. I am less inte...

Canonical Crime_4_PH_vol_1_From MAG _to_Washington and Maple - a Wells-Fargo connection and other outliers This is the revised and updated form of a note I wrote for – and posted at – Tapatalk, the message board of ZodiacKiller.com, Tom Voigt’s website and archive of original case documents concerning the Zodiac killer unsolved case. The note was posted on May 14, 2024. It was my first piece since my “return” to the message board and the first attempt to publicly communicate the method, tone, and scope of what I now call the “CHS” data-driven model (Contextual-Holistic-Systemic). I label the original version as a “note” rather than a piece or article – the attempt was modest, and focused on taking “baby steps” in establishing a geo-spatial “reference index” that was provided by the “Stine death route” – my first of many attempts to link the killer’s decisions as part of a broader “reference index”, where the “Killer Historian” and the “Curator of Commemorating Events” becomes...

Zodiac Letters 2_1969_08_04 vol_1_Debut letter tone and writing for print 1.                        Introduction This opening volume frames the August 4, 1969, so-called Debut Letter, as a media event engineered for narrative control. Using a CHS (Contextual–Holistic–Systemic) approach, these following empirical finds will be demonstrated and discussed over a number of articles: Analysis of tone and content : the narrative controller as his own playwright director Self-reference of geometry of letter : “3 to 6 in. across” à a validation of Soze’s analysis for the July 31, 1969, letters (“Writing for print”) Rhythmic pacing of “linguistic outliers.” Outliers occur at ~15-16-word intervals from word 41 to ~ 340 , then stop. Linear fit Edge-zone emptiness. Zero outliers in 1–40 and 341–414 → mid-band concentration. ...
